Job Description:
Job OverviewEnsures that the most optimal radiation therapy treatments are provided to our patients, under direction of the Radiation Oncologist and/or the Lead Radiation Therapist.
This will be a team approach in professional operations with treatment delivery, simulation, and brachytherapy, or any other care related to the radiation therapy treatments.
Conduct - Maintains good staff interpersonal skills, by providing a work example to patients, peers, and other staff members.
Is kind, courteous to patients, along with being flexible and effectively interacting with patients, family members, and staff.
May interview patients and their family to discuss problems and reports to appropriate staff in a timely manner.
Portrays professional demeanor and conduct in dealing with all patients, and staff by upholding the COH mission and values.
Leadership/Accountability - Assures that all department rules and regulations are followed.
Observes all radiation safety measures for patients and personnel.
Maintains all equipment in safe and satisfactory working order, and report all defects, deficiencies or problems to service engineer, physicist, and lead therapist.
Relays important information regarding treatments to appropriate staff, and or family members in a professional timely manner.
Assures quality and accuracy on patients' charts, and report any mistakes to physics staff and lead therapist.
Interpersonal - Maintains open and timely communication regarding the patient's care, and records or conveys any changes in treatment to other staff when needed.
Assists other staff, physicians and or patient with any needs or examinations if needed.
Maintains a timely schedule, minimizing waiting time for the patient and family.
If machines go down informs patient, front desk and lead therapist in a timely manner, and keeps such information updated frequently to all the above appropriate staff.
Development/Training - Maintains clinical proficiency at all times.
Meets all requirements of skills for the 6 month competency evaluation.
Attends all department/ in-service meetings, and if not able to attend, notifies lead therapist.
Decision Making - Knows how to operate all radiation equipment trained on and delivers planned course of radiation therapy as described by Radiation Oncologist with minimal supervision.
Assists with making patient immobilization devices.
Knows basic dosimetry to enable in proper treatment of patients.
Observes unusual physical/ psychological reactions and problems regarding patients and informs appropriate physician and or other staff members in a timely manner.
Recognizes unsatisfactory procedures or problems and works to find/ recommend a resolution.
Reports any abnormal lab results to physician assistant, nurse or physician in timely manner and before treatment is given.
Deciphers when alterations need to be made to treatment plan and/or treatment immobilization devices and reports such to appropriate staff in a timely manner.
Age Specific/Safety/Infection Control - Demonstrates knowledge, skills and abilities for the age specific population.
Explains code orange, code yellow, code black, code green, code red, code white, and code blue; gives appropriate numbers to call for each.
Locates MSDS information, and policy and procedures.
Explains what to do in the event of an electrical, water, medical gas and telephone failure.
Demonstrates proper hand washing techniques and uses PPE when appropriately needed.
Responds to fire drills and knows where the evacuation routes are and also where the fire extinguishers/ alarm pulls are located in the department.
Demonstrates proper way to dispose of infectious wastes, soiled linens, and sharps.
Explains the process for a chemo/ blood spill Education/Experience Level 2 or 4 year degree in the field of Radiation Therapy, or certificate in an accredited radiation therapy program is required.
American Registry of Radiologic Technologists certification in radiation therapy or show proof of working towards this certification.
Current BLS (Obtain AHA certificate within 30 days of hire) Pay Range $30.
